What is affected
One socket, a group of lights or several rooms: describe which parts of the home have the problem.
When it happens
A pattern, a particular appliance or a recent change can be useful information. Don’t recreate a fault to test it.
What has changed
Tell us about recent electrical work, decorating, leaks or new equipment.
Investigation before a repair decision.
Similar symptoms can have different causes. We’ll investigate the affected part of the installation and explain what we find before discussing the appropriate repair.
An intermittent problem may need further investigation. Photos or notes from when it happened can help, but only take them from a safe position. Leave covers and electrical equipment closed.

“Came to test circuit that was tripping the RCD. Honest advice given that the circuit tested ok, and the problem was likely to be with one of the tenant’s appliances. I will have no hesitation in contacting John Day Services next time I need an electrical issue sorting”

Questions about fault finding
Why do my electrics keep tripping?
There can be more than one cause, including a problem with an appliance or the fixed wiring. The symptom alone is not enough to diagnose it; investigation helps establish what needs attention.
Can you find an intermittent fault?
Tell us how often it happens and what you notice at the time. A fault that is not present during a visit can take longer to identify, so we’ll discuss the findings and next steps.
What should I do if something looks damaged?
Stop using affected equipment and seek professional help. Do not remove covers or keep resetting a circuit that trips. If there is a fire or immediate danger, leave the area and call 999.
Do you offer an emergency call-out?
Call to discuss the situation and current availability. This page does not promise a 24-hour service or an immediate attendance time.
Can you give a fixed repair price before visiting?
We need to understand the problem first. We’ll discuss investigation costs and explain any proposed repair once the cause and scope are understood.
