How it began

An idea we wanted
to help make happen.

A member of Dove House Hospice’s fundraising team approached us about “A Garden Lit with Love”. The project would see lanterns illuminated across the garden, and our part was to provide the electrical supply and controls to power them.

We installed the system in early November 2025, ahead of the garden’s first illumination on 26 November.

“Although I haven’t personally needed Dove House’s services, I have enormous respect for the work they do. ‘A Garden Lit with Love’ felt like a lovely project to be part of, and I wanted to help bring it to life through careful planning and preparation.”

Behind the lanterns

Careful planning.
A lasting installation.

Our work included a permanent power supply, numerous sockets around the garden and remote switching. Waterproof, heat-resistant cable supplied power to the lanterns positioned throughout the space.

The supply, sockets and switching were installed permanently. The work gave the garden electrical infrastructure that would remain in place after the first illumination.

For Joe, the part that needed the most thought was where the supply would come from and how the lights would be controlled.

“The biggest challenge wasn’t running the cables. It was working out where to take the power supply from and how the lighting would be controlled. We found a solution that worked really well for the project and was particularly appreciated by Dove House’s maintenance team.”

Seeing the garden
come to life.

The lanterns were first illuminated on 26 November. After the planning and installation, it was a chance to see the garden lit and people enjoying it.

“I remember so many happy faces. People enjoying the garden, others watching from inside, nurses, visitors and staff. Seeing their reactions made all the planning and hard work worthwhile.”

A shared effort

With special thanks.

AA Jones donated all the materials free of charge, with a special thank-you to Andy Turner.

We kept our labour costs as low as possible to help Dove House and support the project. Bringing the garden to life was something we were proud to be part of.

“I take real pride in delivering safe, carefully planned electrical work to the best of my ability. Being able to put those skills towards something that brought people enjoyment made this project particularly rewarding. Dove House was a pleasure to work with.”

“I remember it rained! It was nice to be associated with the project as a business.”
